When I left off, we were staying in the Air BnB, which was in Delray Beach, and spending time with both sets of grandparents. On our second morning, Dave woke up everyone asking if we wanted to go to the ocean to see the sunrise. I was the only one who agreed to go.
When the kids were all up and ready, we went back to the beach with them as well.
I was doing what I always do – reading.
The chairs we had were from the Air BnB. When we left the beach, I set down the one I was holding and proceeded to leave it there. We realized when we got back to the house, so Dave and I swung back to find it. Someone was just about to walk away with it!
Meanwhile, back at home:
Our next stop was back to my parents’ neighborhood where we met up with my parents.
My dad’s first cousin also lives close by and he usually comes by when we are visiting so he can see us. Before heading to the pool, we went over to the shuffle board courts.
But Zachary and my dad’s cousin also checked out the Bocce court.
We hung out by the pool for a bit and then we had dinner with Dave’s parents. We lit the menorah back at the Air BnB, and then we went to the downtown area which they always have set up for Christmas with fun displays and a huge Christmas tree. There is a free service in Delray like uber, where you call a golf cart to pick you up. So we rode that there, but we walked back.
The next day, we had to leave our Air BnB by 10 AM and we were staying with Dave’s parents for the sabbath. First, we went to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, which is a turtle rescue center.
After that, we stopped by Cinnaholic, which is a cinnamon roll bakery that was opened by a family who used to live in our community. We moved here after they left, but we have met a couple of times. We got a few things to try and share:
When we were getting to Dave’s parents’ place, we saw this guy, and I was excited because iguanas are cool.
The kids went swimming again and Simon and I played more shuffle board. The temperature was expected to drop pretty far by that evening (Friday) so they had to get their swimming in! Then we had dinner and slept over, etc. In the morning, we all went to the nearby synagogue, where the rabbi was so excited to have visitors from Kansas, that he spoke about us in his speech. Just at the end of services, they said they had to evacuate the building because there was a smell of burning and the fire department was coming! It turned out to be some grease that was on or near the oven, I’m not sure exactly.
By that evening (Saturday), it was the 7th night of Hanukkah and also Christmas Eve, which we don’t celebrate but most people do, so things were closed. Dave and Zachary ran out to Target to buy ice cream and to a pizza shop for pizza, which we ate and hung out watching It’s a Wonderful Life. I went to bed before the movie was over though!
To be continued, with the next segment of our trip!
