After our first few days spend in Portland, we headed out towards the Oregon Coast. Somehow I hadn’t understood that it wasn’t going to be warm in Oregon and the kids and I brought mostly shorts and t-shirts when we needed more pants and sweatshirts!
Our first stop was in Tillamook, where we checked out the cheese factory. It wasn’t operating since it was a Sunday, but I took photos anyway!
We bought some cheese and crackers to eat later and then we got some really good ice cream. Our next stop was at a brewery. Simon wanted me to share this photo in which he is not actually drinking a beer with Dave:
One of our Uber drivers in Portland told us to check out something called the Tunnel Beach in Tillamook, so we headed there next. You access it from Oceanside Beach and the tunnel is built into the rocks.

We got a family picture:
Climbing back to the tunnel:
There are holes in the tunnel walls and I started taking pictures through them.
That lead to these pictures by Gabbie:
We spent some time on the rocks after exiting the tunnel too.
Next, we followed signs to see a lighthouse nearby, the Cape Mears Lighthouse. It was drizzly and the walk through the trees was kind of cool looking!
On the way back up the trail there was a tree archway and the kids were posing for pictures there.
Then they sat on a bench and they even all sat together for pictures.
This was when Dave farted and they laughed.
I don’t know what Zachary’s doing here!
We continued along the path to check out the Octopus Tree.
We were staying in a little hotel near the beach so we tried to see the sunset, but it was too foggy.
This is the hotel.
There was a cute store nearby but it was closed.
The next day, we were driving to Brookings, OR. We made a few stops along the coast on the way. The first stop was called Devil’s Punchbowl.
Another place we stopped was Thor’s Well.
From there, you could see the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse.
These next photos were from somewhere along the coast and I’m not sure where!
That night, we stayed in Brookings, which is just north of the California border. We took this picture along the wharf there:
Unfortunately, the next morning Dave discovered a bug in our bed…yes, that kind of bug. So things seemed to go a bit downhill after that, with having to deal with our things and the possibility of a bug invasion. But we did continue along our way and next week I will continue with our time in the Redwoods!
