It’s the end of the month so it’s time for my month in review post. September was a lot less busy than August, but it really sped by. I can’t believe it’s the last week of the month! Here’s a look back at our September.
Daily Life
My daily routine has changed yet again – Zachary got his license and is driving himself and Simon to school now! It is both nerve wracking and freeing for me. I am still walking dogs almost daily as a job, plus my volunteer dog walking at the shelter once a week, so I feel busy with that. I also have a new routine of talking to Gabbie on facetime most nights!
Holidays
The holiday season is here. We celebrated Rosh Hashanah and enjoyed meals with friends for two of the meals during the holiday. (We’ve also had meals with friends for two other Shabbat meals this month!) Monday was Yom Kippur, which isn’t as fun of a holiday. I ended up sleeping most of the day which doesn’t seem as meaningful as being at prayer services, but when I’m not eating it is a bit hard for me. I would really like to find more meaning in prayers somehow! This weekend, the holidays continue with Sukkot.
School
Gabbie seems to be enjoying college. I’m happy for her! I had mentioned she was considering dropping her Jewish Studies class, but she decided to stick with it. One annoying thing is that she is in a Tuesday-Thursday morning class but for some reason, they have an exam scheduled for a Friday evening. It doesn’t make sense to have an exam outside of class hours! I imagine Gabbie is not the only person with a conflict, but she can’t be there at the scheduled times for religious reasons!
Zachary seems to be doing well so far with school and Simon’s grades also look pretty good. We had his meeting with his teachers for his 504 plan and I’m not sure I’m happy with how things are going so far. I contacted the learning specialist the following day asking her to help Simon navigate something with his science teacher and she hasn’t replied or met with Simon. If the teachers work with him more I think he would be ok, but as it is right now he struggles with organizational tasks and completing assignments.
I wrote more about his diagnosis here.
Activities
Zachary is keeping busy with youth group activities. Even without having a director, the kids are still having board meetings weekly. He also went to his other youth group’s opening event. Simon had an event with that other youth group as well.
Gabbie has been going to on campus events with the Jewish group and with the journalism department. She tried out for a dance group and wasn’t selected. She was working on an audition for another group but I don’t know what happened with that one yet. It is too bad it is so selective!
Health / Fitness
I had a physical this month as well as blood work done. I have high cholesterol. I also had my prolactin levels checked because I have a history of a benign pituitary tumor and my levels are indeed still high. I am having a follow up with an endocrinologist. I kind of hope these levels explain my non stop weight gain or at least that the doctor can give me a solution. I went a week without snacking and I still gained weight!
As far as fitness I am going to barre classes again. They had replaced the teacher with someone no one liked but now the teacher is good! I get a bit of exercise with dog walking as well, although one of my clients is a pretty slow walker!
TV
I finished watching Cruel Summer and I started and finished Lioness, which I really liked too. Now I’m not sure what I’ll watch! It is sad that regular TV isn’t coming back due to the strikes.
I’ve also been watching the Chiefs – I’m pretty invested in the fact that Taylor Swift was at this week’s game!
Reading
My concentration hasn’t been great and it’s taking a bit longer than normal to complete books these days. (For me). I shared my first half of September reading here and this Friday I’ll be sharing my 5 star reads.
Coming Up
I’m going on a big trip in October – a mom’s trip to Israel. I’m busy preparing for that and I’ll have to figure out keeping up with blog reading when I’m gone! Simon will be on a school camping trip overlapping with some of my trip and then Dave is taking the boys to NJ for the weekend that I’m gone. It may be another busy month!
How was your September?
