When we decided to drive to my brother’s house in Atlanta, we knew we would be making a bunch of stops along the way, to make the trip fun and to see places we’d never seen before (although we did drive to Atlanta a few years ago as well)! Our first official stop was Louisville, KY, where we visited Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory.
Walking to the museum, you head down the Louisville Slugger Walk of Fame, which honors players with bronze castes of bats and home plates engraved with highlights of their careers. Zachary also liked this chess knight!
The Big Bat that leans on the building is the world’s biggest baseball bat. It is an exact-scale replica of Babe Ruth’s bat.
There is also a big ball and glove inside the museum, which Simon thought was pretty funny!
Of course, much of the museum consists of their bat collection.
You can put on gloves and hold actual ball game bats from players on every team in the Major League. Of course, all three kids chose to hold Alex Gordon’s bat!
Zachary enjoyed the virtual reality pitching experience. Gabbie and Simon pretended to be sitting in the dugout.
The temporary exhibit right now is Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Oddball Exhibit, with some interesting baseball related oddities and other random and strange items.
This was made out of some sort of fur.
Yankee Stadium made out of toothpicks.
You could open drawers and look inside, and this was inside the first we opened. It’s Hebrew! I read it and one of the kids asked me what it means. I said, “Believe or don’t believe.” Dave corrected me – it means “Believe it or not!”
Kansas City themed something or other.
Of course, we also took the factory tour and learned how bats are made. Pictures are not allowed on the tour. At the end, everyone receives a mini-Louisville Slugger bat, which you can see the kids holding in some of the photos!
Have you ever been to Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory?
