After Thanksgiving, we took the opportunity to drive Gabbie back to UMass (from northern NJ it’s only about 2.5 hours) so the boys could see the campus and she didn’t have to take the train or the bus back. While in Amherst, we also visited the Yiddish Book CenterYiddish Book Center.
As we approached Amherst, we were greeted by a rainbow.
After bringing Gabbie’s things to her dorm, we headed to the dining hall for lunch. Gabbie gets free family swipes on her meal plan, so we were excited to take advantage of that! The kosher meal for lunch was falafel and kabobs.
We checked out the greenhouse that is near the dining hall.
Gabbie had class, so we walked her there and then went to the Yiddish Book Center. The center is the home of Yiddish books that have been rescued and preserved. It’s a pretty amazing collection!
As you walk down into the stacks, there is a mural and displays of famous books in Yiddish.
We walked around and checked out some of the displays.
It was definitely a cool place to check out. Then we headed back to campus to meet Gabbie and met her at the library. She wanted to show us the view!
We then went with her into Amherst to visit a book store and to CVS because Zachary wasn’t feeling well and he needed some cold medicine. Next it was back to the dining hall for dinner, which I didn’t take a picture of! And then we said goodbye and drove back to NJ.
Our flight home was the following day and taking off around sunset time is pretty cool!
And now just about two weeks later, Gabbie is home for winter break!
