It’s the end of the month so it’s time for my month in review post. October was definitely the worst month I’ve experienced in awhile and this post may include a lot of not so great updates because of that.
Daily Life
I suppose the month started out normally although it was the Sukkot holiday so we had a lot of extra fun things to do and meals to plan. Gabbie came home for a visit and she was here when the attack happened in southern Israel. Since then, it seems my main focus has been on what is happening there. I was supposed to be in Israel this week so that certainly didn’t turn out as planned. Simon’s school camping trip was also postponed.
We are down a car again as of last Thursday. Dave was driving the car that Zachary uses and was in a crash. He is ok but the car is totaled. So Zachary has to drive our older car to school for now, while we look for a better one to replace the one that was in the crash.
Holidays
We finished out the holiday season with what should have been the happiest of the holidays but instead was filled with anxiety. We were thankful to hear from family afterwards!
School
First quarter ended and Zachary and Simon have A’s and B’s. Simon ended up really enjoying his class about family roots, and now he’s in a new elective about the history of pop music. He’s not happy because there are only two kids in the class! I’m surprised they would have a class for only two kids myself. As far as his learning plan, I don’t think his science teacher is in understanding about it and even called Simon lazy. Grr. Simon also lost or didn’t know about an assignment for health class but he said a 0 grade was fine with him because he still has a B.
Activities
Zachary is busy with youth group events still and this past weekend he attended a weekend in Wisconsin. Because he’s on the regional board, he got to fly in early for meetings. We did find an interim director for our group here, which is good.
I started volunteering at the school cafe after school on Tuesdays and Simon is helping me with that. I think it used to be more difficult but they upgraded everything and you can just scan the food the kids are buying and the price comes up, plus the register can tell you how much change to give, which is helpful too!
Gabbie found a dance group that she was able to join and she is still active with the Jewish group on campus. She did some photography for them with their vigil for Israel.
Health / Fitness
I had my appointment with the endocrinologist and she said that it’s unlikely my higher prolactin level has led to weight gain. She said it’s probably related to PCOS. But she didn’t recommend anything I should do about that. I had more blood work and I’m supposed to be doing another test soon as well.
My mother is also having some health concerns at the moment so on top of everything else, that is on my mind too.
TV
I started watching Lessons in Chemistry. It’s ok so far.
Reading
If my concentration wasn’t good last month it’s definitely not good this month! I’m definitely reading more than I expected being that I’m not on my big trip right now. I shared my first half of October reads here and I’ll share the (few) 5 star reads of the month on Friday.
Coming Up
Dave was planning on going to NJ this weekend while I was away. Now we’re all going, so at least I have that to look forward to. Then in November it’s my birthday and Thanksgiving, so I hope I’ll have a cheerier update to share next month.
How was your October?
