When we left off, we had visiting the Redwood Forest. The next morning, we headed into San Francisco. The last time we had been to San Francisco, Gabbie was a baby. So it was basically new for all three kids.
We stopped off to see the Golden Gate Bridge, and look, it was still foggy!
We headed to our hotel, where we returned our rental car and got settled. We checked out the top floor of the hotel with views of San Francisco.
We walked to a kosher restaurant for lunch, but it turned out to be in what didn’t seem like a great area, with lots of happenings on the street. Some of us saw a sheet covered stretcher being loaded into a medical vehicle, freaked out, and decided they were no longer hungry. So we brought most of our lunches back to the hotel to eat later on. Then we headed back out to see the nicer parts of the city!
Of course the street cars were big hits with most of us and we stopped by the street car museum, where you can see the cables that pull them up the hills.
We walked through Chinatown next.
We made our way to Fisherman’s Wharf where we got to see the sea lions!
After a break at Ghirardelli, we hiked up a huge hill to check out Lombard Street. (We actually drove on it earlier, but getting to walk on it was pretty cool too).
That evening, we ordered dinner and ate it in our room. Dave and Zachary went out and rode all of the street car lines. They seemed like they had fun!
The next day, we had a special activity planned. My mom had told me my brother was also going to be in CA when we were traveling there, but for some reason I assumed they’d be in southern CA. Luckily, when my brother talked to Zachary on his birthday, they realized we’d both be in the San Francisco area! So we arranged to meet up with him and his wife and kids and this is awful, but it’s the first time we’ve seen them since before Covid. So we were all very excited. Thankfully we have stayed in touch and everyone is still comfortable with each other. My nephew ran right up to me and hugged me! We met near the Golden Gate Bridge and walked along the trail where there used to be gun batteries. Lots to climb on and great views!
The sun was even out! After that, we went back to Fisherman’s Wharf so the kids could see the sea lions.
The two above were fighting over who got to stay! We then got lunch and said goodbye to the family as we had to head to the airport.
Luckily our flight home was uneventful, but we still returned very late at night and were somewhat overtired. Plus, Dave wouldn’t allow our suitcases into the house so we had to try to take out the things we needed and not the thousands of loads of laundry I had to do the next day…(in case you missed it, this was all to prevent bedbugs from hitching a ride home with us).
That concludes our summer trip recap! I hope you enjoyed following along.
