We are now done with the third quarter of the school year so it’s time for a third quarter school update.
[Simon]
Simon’s struggles continue with school and especially with math class. He has been getting D’s on quizzes and tests lately. I talked to another mom in the class and have been told that the majority of the kids are having the same issues and it is due to the teacher, not the kids themselves. I was happy to hear that it is not just a Simon issue, but I am still concerned about his organizational skills and his ability to retain information, as he is still being tutored and still not doing well on quizzes and tests. He met with the learning specialist at school and came up with some ideas such as sitting closer to the front of the class and taking a picture of the notes on the board to refer back to later. He also did not do well in history this quarter because he neglected to turn in two assignments. He blamed the teacher for not allowing him to go to his locker and retrieve the assignment. I have made an appointment with a psychologist to find out about the possibility of ADHD or maybe executive functioning issues that he needs help with.
[Zachary]
This quarter, Zachary worked on a family heritage project in which he interviewed my mother-in-law and made a presentation in class about her family. He was very interested and enjoyed researching family history. He told me that when he shared about the family members lost in the Holocaust, he felt a bit choked up, which shows me he was very engaged with this assignment! His grades this quarter remained with As and Bs.
[Gabbie]
We are still waiting on three more schools which don’t do their acceptances until the end of this month, and then Gabbie has to make her decision! I really don’t know how she will decide, and I don’t think she is very decisive in general, but I know wherever she ends up will be the right place for her! She is enjoying her senior year and besides picking a school, the most worrisome thing she needs to get through now is her AP Government exam. She signed up to take the test and the teacher doesn’t teach well (he is retiring!) so she doesn’t think she’ll do well on it. I wonder if we can opt out at this point!
Here’s hoping the last quarter of the school year goes well for all.
