Last week, Gabbie had her winter dance performance. Each class performs for about 2 minutes, showing off what they have been working on during this semester in dance. Gabbie takes Lyrical, Ballet, and Tap, and also is an assistant for a younger kids’ class. She will also be competing again this year and we will have her Competition Showcase in a few weeks, when we get to see her perform her tap solo and lyrical duet.
I find Winter Showcase a little frustrating because after the younger kids perform, they are allowed to leave, so by the time Gabbie dances, much of the audience is gone. Obviously the show is in the evening and the younger kids have to go to bed, but I think their parents could really enjoy seeing the older kids dancing. On the other hand, I couldn’t see anything for much of the show because of the guy with the big head in front of me, so I was happy when people left and I could move over! Also, as a parent of an older child, I suppose I could come later and skip the little kids’ dances, but I kind of like seeing them roaming around the stage and doing their own thing and then seeing how as the groups get older, the dancing gets better! It’s cute. Plus, we know a lot of the kids from school and our synagogue and I enjoy seeing them perform.
Dave was at the Chiefs game, so I attended the show with Zachary, Simon, and Gabbie’s friend. Another friend of hers also sat with us. One of her other friends filmed all of her dances, so I have videos to share too!
Tap
Tap was up first. It’s a smaller class so some of the pictures look like Gabbie is up there alone! They danced to No Roots. Funny story – this summer when I first heard that song I said it would be a good song for a tap dance. When Gabbie told me they were doing that song for Winter Showcase, I may have cheered a bit!
Ballet
Ballet was next and it was to a song called Dangerous. If you watch the video and you see some dancers going on and off stage for various parts of the dance, that’s because there are two ballet classes – Monday and Thursday – and the dancers are in either one or both. Gabbie is in the Monday class but she did some make up classes on Thursdays so she’s in both parts of the dance!
Lyrical
Last was Lyrical, and the song was Don’t Worry About Me.
Afterwards, I got some pictures of Gabbie and her friends.
I love watching these girls dance!
