It’s been just about 3 years since our cross country move from New Jersey to Kansas. So today’s Flashback Feature is all about the move! First let me tell you how difficult it was for me to get these pictures to you – they were stored on facebook and facebook somehow lost them! So I pulled out my old laptop and using a tiny zip drive I moved all the pictures I had stored on there onto my computer. I had to go back and forth between the laptop and computer a ton of times because the zip drive hardly fits any files on it. But all my pictures are safe now, and here they are!
We drove from New Jersey with 2 kids, a dog, and 2 cars, meaning both Dave and I had to drive the entire trip. We planned our stops to be interesting places and only drove about 4-6 hours per day, making the trip over 4 days. We crossed the states of NJ, PA, WV, OH, IN, IL, and MO before reaching KS! Our first stop was Hershey’s Chocolate World in Hershey, PA! This is not Hershey’s Park, which is right next door, but the free tour and visitor’s center.
Our second stop was in Wheeling, WV. I was singing a lot of Billy Joel’s Billy the Kid that day. The river and suspension bridge were very pretty!
In Ohio, we stopped at my Aunt and Uncle’s house. There is only one picture from that stop, but it’s so cute, don’t you think?
In Indiana we stopped at the Indianapolis Speedway. Although I am not a car racing fan at all, I thought it was a pretty cool place to visit!
Our final touristy stop was at the St. Louis Arch. Since the dog was with us I did not go inside the arch, but Dave and the kids did. They still talk about how they could see Rudy and me from the top!
The last leg of our trip was the worst. Driving across MO was boring! This pretty much sums it up. I had to learn to pump my own gas! I think I was on the phone with my parents, maybe?
What do you think? Cross country road trips – fun or awful? Personally I plan to never do it again!
