Almost a year ago, I wrote a list of 35 things I wanted to do before I turned 35 years old. Well, my birthday is on Sunday and I’m ready to retire this list. I did a relatively good job at completing my goals and thought I’d share a bit about the items I did not check off.
- Complete a 1/2 Marathon – DONE
- Run a mile in under 10 minutes – DONE
- Run a 5K in under 30 minutes
I was unable to pull this off. With my surgery taking a large chunk of time away from training, I had to put this on the back burner.
- Repeat one of the races I did this year and do it faster
I was unable to fit a repeat race into my schedule, again due to my surgery. The one race I wanted to do and would have been able to get a better time on didn’t take place this year! How frustrating.
- Go on a cruise or to Disney World – DONE
- Finish knitting the Swing Swagger Coat – DONE
- Complete at least 6 knitting projects (6/6) – DONE
- Learn a new knitting technique
I’m not really sure what knitting technique I was going to learn…I think I know most of them already!
- Read 25 or more books (58/25) – DONE
- Plan and hold an awesome 3rd birthday party for Simon – DONE
- Potty train Simon – DONE
- Move Simon’s room upstairs and Gabbie’s room downstairs
As much as I want to redecorate their rooms, Gabbie is our worst sleeper of the 3 and Dave doesn’t think having her sleep on the main floor of the house (where we hang out after bed time) is the best idea to improve her sleeping! So we didn’t do this yet.
- Have 300+ blog followers – DONE
- Host a blog giveaway – DONE
- Go Geocaching – DONE
- Go to the antique / vintage shops in the West Bottoms on a First Friday – DONE
- Try Project Life – DONE
- Reunite with an old friend
Just didn’t work out, I guess.
- Fix our
bench, banister, and outdoor tables – DONE -
Get furniture for the back of the living room
Funny, I just bought organizing cubes, but they turned out to be the wrong size. I want to do something like this:
[source] - Lose 10 pounds
I lost 10 pounds after my surgery, but both before and after that brief time, I have been fluctuating in the same 10 pound range – never below the bottom but a lot of the time towards the top of the range!
- Fly a kite – DONE
- Hug an animal – DONE
- Plant something
Never got around to it. The front of the house needs plants badly!
- Paint something – DONE
- Sell something
Technically this should count as done because I sold kids’ clothes in the consignment sale, I just didn’t write a full blog post about it!
- Upcycle something – DONE
- Color a Mandala – DONE (plus I wasn’t sure if I should count the plates, so I colored another!)
- Go to a show – DONE
- Go to a sporting event – DONE
- See the fireworks on July 4 – DONE
- Complete a 3000 piece puzzle – DONE
- Do something for someone else – DONE
- Document these things on my blog as I complete them (24/35)
Couldn’t complete this one unless I completed the rest of them!
- Plan something exciting to celebrate my 35th birthday!
I tried, I thought I could come up with something fun, but instead I’ll be spending Saturday night taking Gabbie to see her dance teacher perform and Sunday with Zachary at Cub Scouts and bowling. I guess nothing could top last year anyway!
So there you have it – one year worth of goals not quite completed. If you want to read all about the completed ones, just click where they say DONE!
35th year – almost DONE!
There are a lot of gifts you could give this holiday season, but when it comes to something really meaningful, there’s nothing quite like the gift of a book you’ve made yourself. But before you start having visions of gluing and sewing together pages, check out the Blurb Gift Center.
Blurb lets you make seriously beautiful books using their free tools. Just add photos and text, choose your options (like paper and cover type), and then order. Of course, you do have to decide just what kind of book you want to make. But relax, because they have put together the cool Blurb Gift Center to give you lots of ideas.
For instance, if you’ve got a genealogical bent, there’s the Blurb Family History Book.
For those with newborns (or those that know someone with a newborn), a Blurb Baby Book might be just the thing.
And if you’re the kind of person who keeps getting asked for copies of your recipes, think about making a Blurb Food Book.
This holiday season, make your gift recipients feel really special by making them something special. There really is a book for everyone.
