It’s the end of the first month of 2024 so it’s time to look back at January in review. It was a snowy, cold, busy month here!
Daily Life
The boys went back to school but had very few full weeks due to snow days, MLK Day, and more snow days.
Gabbie’s friends from school visited. She was here all month and is back on campus now for her 2nd semester!
We had our first dog guest through Rover which didn’t go very well. After that we had Murray, who was also here in October. He’s with us for a whole month. Starting tomorrow, my best dog customers are coming as well – so three dogs at once. I’m a little nervous!
Murray loves burrowing himself in his bed.
Holidays
Other than being home for MLK Day, we also celebrated the Jewish New Year for Trees, Tu B’Shevat. Gabbie and I attended a focaccia making event. We decorated bread with vegetables.
School
School continues to be a bit of a stressor for Simon. I helped him with a project that he had overdue. He didn’t get a very good grade on it. And when I checked their grades while writing this, I saw Zachary has some missing assignments too. Sigh.
Zachary’s class was meant to go on an important trip this year, to Poland and Israel. Some of the families pressured the school to remove Israel from the itinerary and now Zachary decided not to go on the trip. So he’s going to be home for three weeks in March.
Activities
The boys keep busy with youth group events. Gabbie got to go along to a few of them as well. All three of them watched the Chiefs championship game with one of their groups.
Post game cuddles
I walked a few dogs through Rover and luckily those went better than the dog boarding! I do have dog boarding through the site coming up and I hope for better experiences.
Health / Fitness
The boys had well visits. All three of my kids are within a 1/4 inch of each other in height. Simon has scoliosis and we have to monitor that (my dad, myself, and Gabbie all have / had it as well). Gabbie went to the doctor wondering about her iron levels. She also went to the dermatologist and the dentist while she was home.
I haven’t really made it to the gym much this month sadly. The one day I went, the teacher I don’t like was there! That was annoying.
TV
I’ve been watching a few of my favorites – Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Call The Midwife, and Good Trouble. I’m happy these shows are back! I’ve also been watching football!
Reading
My reading has been steady enough this month. I feel ok about it! I shared the first half of the books I read this month here and my favorites of the month here. I will share the rest of my January reading on Friday.
Coming Up
I’m excited to watch the Super Bowl with friends. I’m hoping my next 10 days of dog care for 3 goes ok!
How was your January?
