This week’s photography theme for 52 Frames was Wabi Sabi. What exactly is wabi sabi? It’s a Japanese worldview centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection and sometimes described as beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. At first, I wasn’t sure what I should do for my weekly photo. Then I checked my list of places I wanted to go to take photos and realized the West Bottoms in Kansas City would be perfect. The West Bottoms is an industrial area that houses antique stores and haunted houses. The antique stores are mainly open on the first Friday weekends each month and the haunted houses aren’t open in the morning, so it was a mainly empty and easy enough experience to walk a few of the streets and take pictures of the old and run down beauty found there.
After my walk, I had way too many photos to choose from! I might be a new fan of wabi sabi!
