Extended Family #31Days

OK, yesterday evening we discussed siblings. What about your extended family? Did you grow up with many aunt, uncles, and cousins? Do your children have many cousins? Do you see your extended family often? What do you like to do with them?

My mom and dad each have one brother. My mom’s brother has two sons and my dad’s brother has one daughter. What this means is that I only have 3 first cousins. Dave’s mom is an only child and his dad had 3 brothers, but only one of them had children – two girls – so he grew up with 2 first cousins. This same uncle adopted a child after Dave already was an adult, so he now has another first cousin who is much younger than him. My kids are lucky enough to have 9 first cousins. Most of their cousins are older than them – the youngest being Gabbie’s age. My kids also have a few second cousins – Dave’s cousins’ kids – who are a little closer to their ages. Unfortunately, we don’t see them all that often. Gabbie loves to talk to our extended family on Face Time which I find very cute!

Feel free to tell me about your extended family in the comments or by leaving a link to your post!

My mom is an only child, but she had tons of first cousins and I grew up with so many great aunts/uncles, as well as her cousins and their kids. My dad has an older brother and sister. We don't talk to my dad's sister, because there were some issues there that were beyond repair for both my dad and my uncle. But we are very close with my uncle and even very close to his kids (my first cousins).

Kinda massive here, but only because I grew up in a blended family so we had four sides to contend with. My mom's side, my father's side, my new dad's side, and his deceased wife's side because they were my three new step-siblings' relatives so they became mine. Have I lost you yet?

haha, no you didn't lose me! I love this stuff!

My dad is one of 17 kids (they had a farm - lol) and my mom is the oldest of 5. Needless to say, I whole a whole bunch of first cousins. However, because my parents were looking for a job after college, they ended up in a different part of the state so I was raised with just my brother and parents. So, lots of road trips over the years to keep up. I always was a little jealous of those kids who always went to their grandma's house after school and did all sorts of cool stuff. We saw our grandparents during the summer and at Christmas. Thank goodness for family reunions though!

Funny thing is, in my dad's family, although there were lots of them, they all had 1-3 kids for the most part. But now their kids are having 3-5 kids each, so we have lots of 2nd cousins. Lots!

I am envious of all of your cousins!

My mom has two brothers, one of which has children - two girls and two boys. The oldest is 4 years younger than me so we've never been all that close. The funny thing is that we wanted to have family closer to us when we lived in PA and a few months after we moved back to IN, one of my cousins moved to NJ! Then, another moved to Baltimore a few months later.

that is too bad!
