For awhile now I have been participating in the $10 at Target challenge. The idea is to spend $10 and only $10 buying items at Target. We link up our finds on the 3rd Monday of every month, so feel free to head to Target, spend $10, and share your finds – I’m one of the hosts now so you just have to scroll to the end of this post and you will find the link up! I always love checking out what everyone else decided to get!
This month, I went to the store having in mind that I wanted to find some decorative items I could use when taking photos of books for Instagram. I review books often for TLC Book Tours and they have started asking reviewers to post on Instagram as well. I realized that just a picture of the book cover was a little boring and I wanted to spruce up my photos a bit. I cheated a bit though. I couldn’t find what I wanted for the right price at Target, so I supplemented with a few things from Michael’s.
My first idea for book photography is the backgrounds. This yellow background is a skirt and the teal one below is a shirt! I also have a knit blanket that I use (also see below) as well as some scarves that I spread out flat under the books. I considered placemats at Target as backgrounds, but I didn’t find one in colors I liked.
For adding to the images, I like what you can get in these vase fillers, but they are $10 each, so I passed this time.
Instead, I looked at banners and buntings in the dollar spot.
I ended up choosing these two at $3 each.
The flowers and butterfly you see here are from Michael’s and I think they are meant to be scrapbooking supplies.
I also got a few sprigs of fake flowers.
These are another set of the scrapbooking items as well as one of the fake flowers.
The background here is the knit blanket I mentioned above, and I added two décor items I already had, which are actually from Target!
I think what I’m doing here is similar to what people do when they photography flat lays. I am not sure what types of items people use in their flat lays, but I think my ideas will work will for my book photos!
Now, if you shopped at Target this month, link up with us here!
What do you think of my finds? Which items do you like the best?
