After a day at sea, our Disney Cruise stopped at Grand Cayman. We had arranged a tour with Native Way Watersports to Stingray City, Coral Gardens, and Star Fish Snorkel. According to their website, “Stingray City was created by accident in the mid-80s, when fishermen, returning to port, anchored in the calm waters of the Sound to clean their catch and discard bait overboard. The stingrays, drawn by the smell of the fish, quickly became accustomed to the ‘free meal’ and stayed. Today, the rays regularly dine on the squid provided by divers and snorkelers. Coral Gardens, a coral reef covered in 10 feet of clear turquoise water, features some of the most spectacular coral formations in the world….and Star Fish Snorkel: Visit a magical location where you will snorkel above huge, colorful star fish.”
Stingray City is a sandbar, so we were able to get out of the boat and stand in the water. The other stops were not low water, so it was more difficult for those of us who aren’t the best swimmers. And I still haven’t mastered the art of snorkeling. The tour guides brought up conch shells and starfish for us to see!
Have you ever swum with stingrays? Snorkeled with starfish? Tell me about it!
