Growing up in New Jersey, I wasn’t as connected to the Jersey Shore as many other New Jerseyans I know. Many people say they could not imagine living in Kansas, as we are not near the beach. I don’t feel that need to be close to the beach. However, I do have fond childhood memories of Wildwood Crest and Seven Presidents’ Park and as an adult, I enjoyed bringing my kids to the beach many times – usually off season! There is something really beautiful about the empty sand in the winter time. Because Hurricane Sandy had a huge effect on the Jersey Shore, today’s Flashback Feature is about our trips to the beach and boardwalk.
May (ish) 2008 (I took the kids one day for fun!):
March 2009 (Dave took the kids biking on the boardwalk, then we played in the sand):
April 2009 (Took the bike out again and then played, must warmer weather this time!):
October 2009 (Just before we moved, we went to Jenkinson’s Aquarium in Pt. Pleasant and onto the beach a tiny bit – it was so windy!):
And finally, April 2012. (We hit the beach on one of our days in New Jersey! Pt. Pleasant. Also shown is Dave’s sister!):
Jenkinson’s Boardwalk says: “We are currently closed due to the impact and aftermath of the storm. We are working very hard to restore our property. Here at Jenkinson’s we were very lucky to have most of our buildings and structures in tact.” and “The ride park looks pretty good but we will be making further assessments. Most of the rides were removed prior to the storm.”
