The Art of the Brick exhibit is currently at Union Station in Kansas City and when I heard it was coming here, I knew we wanted to attend. It was actually in both Cleveland and Chicago when we were in those cities last summer, but we did not get to visit. The Art of the Brick is an exhibition by Nathan Sawaya who creates art using Lego bricks. Some of the art is recreations of famous pieces and some is the artist’s own work. Each piece is labeled with how many Legos were used to create it and it is quite amazing to see! There are a series of areas inside the exhibit and at the end, there was a model of the whole thing also made from Legos. I think that was Zachary’s favorite part!
First up were the models of various famous art works.
This area was all about art history.
This area was called the Artist’s Studio.
The next part was various sculptures of humans made from Legos.
This room was all dark and the sculptures alone were lit up.
In this part was only a huge dinosaur.
On the walls were various photographs with parts that were made of Legos, and the sculptures were of those items from the photos.
The last room had the model of the exhibit, a few more human forms, and a special for Kansas City sculpture of the fountain at Union Station.
At the end, there is a Lego building room, where we spent some time as well.
Zachary made a yellow pyramid.
Simon claimed that he made an outhouse!
The Lego Art of the Brick Exhibit was a lot of fun to check out!
