Havana, Cuba

In case you missed it, check out our first day in Cuba here.

For our second day in Havana, we set up a tour with I Love Cuba Tours. Our guide picked us up at our casa and we walked and learned about Havana. Later, we went with a driver to places that were farther away.

One of the first things our guide pointed to was this mural of Trump sitting on a cactus.

As we walked, I took photos of more of the architecture. We saw a bit of what we’d seen the day before, but this time we heard more stories and history of the places we passed.

What’s Up Wednesday–August

1. What we’re eating this month…

We had Beer Can Chicken twice this month. On Simon’s birthday, we had his favorite meal – mac and cheese. And at the ballpark we had pastrami dogs!

Gabbie participated in a online baking camp and we got to snack on some fun cakes!

2. What I’m Reminiscing About…

Summer in general and past year’s back to school times.

3. What I’m Loving…

Getting back into a regular routine. Even in the beginning of school things aren’t quite normal because not all of the afterschool activities have started. But I appreciate when things flow regularly!

4. What We’ve Been Up To…

We finished out summer break with our mini St. Louis trip, our Kaufman Stadium tour, and some swimming. For the past two weeks it’s been school!

5. What I’m Dreading…

Even while I like the routine of school, I dread when it starts to get even more busy with assignments. I’m sure it won’t be long before the teachers contact me about Simon’s issues with writing too.

6. What I’m Working On…

Knitting a hat for Gabbie’s dance teacher’s baby shower and blog posts.

7. What I’m Excited About…

I suppose I’m looking forward to the fall holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot). Even though they also can be stressful!

8. What I’m Watching / Reading…

This month I watched Ozark and The Killing on Netflix. I need some more suggestions! For what I’ve been reading, click here.

9. What I’m Listening To…

Not too much new. Whenever Gabbie gets into the car she changes my radio station from classic rock to pop. I am so tired of hearing the same songs over and over!

10. What I’m Wearing…

Nothing exciting. Just shorts and t-shirts!

11. What I’m Doing This Weekend…

It’s Labor Day weekend and we might be continuing our tradition of going up to Omaha for Labor Day.

12. What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month…

The Jewish Culture Fest and starting fall activities like apple picking.

13. What Else Is New…

Today is the day that we are sharing the Mom Love Fellowship Summer Edition swaps that we received. My partner was Caity, a sweet lady who recently moved to Texas and is still adapting to life there. She sent me such a fun and creative package! The main inspiration for her package was the book Wild and Free, which she reviewed on her blog here. It is a book about God’s purpose for women and it inspired Caity to wear lipstick and go running in the mornings. It also inspired her to send me the following items:

Lipstick – to be bold and try something outside of the mold.

Toothpaste – to encourage me to let people help me and to accept that we can’t do everything on our own. And to remember to offer help to others too.

Face Mask – to take a few minutes to refresh myself.

And what’s in that big package on the top?

This adorable dress, with which Caity encouraged me to try something new, even if it’s not my particular style in the hopes that it makes me and others smile.

Isn’t she sweet and creative??

Bonus Question: What are your best back to school lunch ideas and/or tips?

We have a lunch schedule so I have a plan as to what everyone wants each day. It helps when more than one kid has the same lunch on the same day. Our newest lunchbox addition is quesadillas! I make lunches the night before.

What’s up with you today?

Tours of Two Stadiums

Tours of Petco Park and Kaufman Stadium

I mentioned briefly that we were in San Diego this summer, but since I have been recapping our trip to NJ first, I haven’t yet gotten to blog about San Diego. More posts about that trip are still in the works, but today I am sharing about the first thing we did there, which was taking a tour of Petco Park. I was only with Gabbie and Simon at the time because Zachary was at camp, but we decided he would enjoy it and that we should take a tour of Kaufman Stadium once we were all back home. Turns out, our Blue Crew memberships got the kids in to that tour for free, so we just had to pay for me! Both tours were interesting and the kids enjoyed them, as did I!

Let’s start with Petco Park. We were able to visit the opposing team’s locker room, but not the one that the Padres use. That was fine with us because we were seeing the one that the Royals use!

We walked along the side of the field.

The park was built around the Western Metal Supply Company building.

We sat in the dugout.

We checked out the bars / dining areas.

And the press box.

Kaufman Stadium isn’t in the middle of the city like Petco Park! Our tour began in the Hall of Fame, which we have seen many times before, but we like it!

Here, we weren’t allowed to step onto the field itself.

In the press room:

We didn’t go in the locker room here, but we could see it:

From the press box:

A spot where a foul ball went into a dented the press box.

Both tours were fun and I think we’d tour more stadiums if we had the opportunity! Have you ever toured a stadium?
