Not In Jersey: 2017 2017 - Not In Jersey

Hooray, It’s Friday! An App, a Card, a Mug, and Simon

Friday, October 20, 2017

Time for another Friday recap post! It’s been awhile because we had a few holidays that had me offline on Fridays over the past few weeks!

Someone in my house decided to share the app Cross Stitch World with our family. Now we are all addicted! It’s totally mindless, basically like color by number, but I can’t seem to stop playing it. You can even upload your own photo and fill it in with color. I did this one:

A few weeks ago, Shutterfly offered 10 free cards, so I decided to upload one of my own images and have it made into a card. I love how they turned out! I really want to send cards to a few people, so if you email me your address, I’ll mail you one! This is my original photo:

My very good friend noticed my photos of my Rae Dunn mugs and told me she has seen them by her. She found one and sent it to me! I love it!

(I might have to retake this photo with coffee in the cup…)

Yesterday before school, Simon wanted me to take his picture. His face is completely better from his fall a few weeks ago. The scab on his lip only took a week to come off and look as good as new. He had his chipped tooth fixed on Tuesday. We had his finger x-rayed again yesterday. It is still broken and he still has to have it taped for another month.

In case you missed it, this week I posted about:

Fun With Kids in San Diego

A few weeks ago, I shared our visit to Sea World in San Diego. As I mentioned in that post, we were in San Diego for a few days while Dave attended a conference. Gabbie, Simon, and I kept ourselves busy while there by being touristy. On the first day there, we visited Petco Park and on the second day we visited Sea World. On the third day, my good friend who lives in L.A. came down to hang out with us and we went to Coronado to the beach!

(But first, a dip in the hotel pool)

We took the ferry to Coronado.

I’ll Show You My…Fall Activity (Apple Picking)

Wednesday, October 18, 2017

This month’s topic for the “I’ll Show You My…” Link Up is “Fall Activity.” I haven’t gotten around to sharing our apple picking photos yet, so I thought I’d share them today! I did already share our other annual fall activity – the pumpkin patch!

We have been apple picking for the last few years at Cider Hill Family Orchard and last year my kids were so much smaller! This year, Gabbie had dance, so she didn’t come apple picking with us. It was a pretty grey day out, which was ok because we were not too hot, but it didn’t make for very pretty pictures!

Zachary was really working hard to get the apples down from the trees!

I’m not sure Simon liked this one…

I told them if they didn’t smile, they couldn’t have caramel apples!

If you wrote about a fall activity, link it up here!

Next month, you can join us on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (November 15) to show us the things you are thankful for! Here is our list of topics:

Have you been apple picking this fall? What other fall activities do you like?

Easy Delicious Vegetarian Chili

Easy Delicious Vegetarian Chili

There’s something about fall weather that makes me think about chili. Chili is also one of my favorite comfort foods. We do occasionally make a meat chili in a crock pot, but for a quick and easy meal or side dish, I love to make this vegetarian chili.

1 can of chick peas (I love Goya!)
1 can of corn
1 can of black beans
1 large can of diced tomatoes
1 jar of salsa
1 tsp chili powder

Combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil on medium heat. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Serve and enjoy! You can top it with cheese if you like. I like to eat it with macaroni and cheese or on top of hot dogs!

The Perfect Mom Outfit From prAna

The Perfect Mom Outfit From prAna

I received this product for free from Moms Meet, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

I think every mom would agree that the main requirement in the perfect outfit is comfort. Cute and functional are important too! PrAna has all of my requirements covered with their organic, hemp, sustainable and fair trade items that both look good and are versatile enough for any lifestyle and any adventure. Not only was this outfit perfect for a bike ride with my kids, I would feel comfortable wearing it to any school meeting or moms’ night out as well.

PrAna is a company that moms can be proud to support. They use materials from sustainable sources, they only partner with companies and factories that follow strict guidelines for safety and fair treatment of employees, and the processes they use help improve the industry – all to make beautiful and functional products in a way we can feel good about. Their main belief is to give back more than they take from the world. Plus, the designers create and test their clothing based on their own love for outdoor activities, so you can be sure the clothes will pair well with your lifestyle.

With bold colors and patterns and attention to detail, prAna combines classic style and modern materials. I was able to try the Mariana Sweater in Deep Balsam along with the Bindu Pants in Dress Blue. The sweater is a mid-weight long sleeved crew neck sweater with a novelty zipper at the front raglan sleeve. It is made of 39% Nylon, 34% Polyester, and 27% Wool. I love the teal colors and the warmth!

The pants are honestly my favorite – they are so comfortable! They are a hybrid performance active wear pant made from 86% Bluesign approved recycled polyester and 14% spandex. The wide, elastic waistband is perfect for me, but there is also a drawstring inside for further adjustability. There are pockets, as well as a cute shirring detail along the front and back leg seams and novelty side ties at the bottom of the legs. One thing to note is that while these pants are shown in their photo as approximately capri length, on me they come down to my feet. In fact, I was previously sent the Mantra Pant, which I LOVED, but was at least 6 inches too long for me. Some of the pants are available to order with short inseams, but most come with a standard long inseam size – great if you’re tall, but not so much if you’re short like me! Anyway, the Bindu pants look good in their long length and were great for our bike ride and a small party we attended afterwards!

I will definitely be wearing this outfit again and feeling comfortable, stylish, and environmentally conscious, as I know prAna is amazing for the work they do towards sustainability!
