Birds and an Alligator at Green Cay

Wednesday, December 30, 2015

One of the places I found near my parents’ house in Florida is the Green Cay Nature Center. Last time we were here, we got to visit the center itself, but this time just the boardwalk was open. Still, we enjoyed walking and watching the birds. We also got to see an alligator!

It’s Okay #96

Tuesday, December 29, 2015

It’s okay…

…that I’m not excited to go back to cold weather.

…that we missed the first snow at home – this kids were upset but I was not.

…that I have New Year’s Eve plans for the first time in years.

…that I did not post anything yesterday.

…that Simon has put a lot of effort into doing his winter break homework.

…that it was our 15 year wedding anniversary on Saturday!

What’s okay with you this week?

What I've Been Reading #106

Library

This book was a long awaited read for me! Originally written as semi-fanfiction, published on tumblr, and much discussed in the Scandal fandom, Falling Stars was finally released during the week of Thanksgiving. I pre-ordered it and read it soon afterwards!

“What if you met the right person at the absolute wrong time? Meet Val Saunders and Sam Newman, two Hollywood actors at opposite ends of their careers. Hers is skyrocketing while his, well, never really took off. Fate brings them together when they’re cast as lovers on a steamy new television series. The on-screen chemistry between them is off the charts and when it spills over into a real life attraction, they find themselves in a situation. Sam is an honorable man. He has been faithful to a toxic, Hollywood marriage for nearly half his life. He’s never strayed and isn’t about to start now, despite the fact that he is falling head over heels for his co-star. Val’s worked hard to get her career on the path to the A-list and the last thing she wants, or needs, is a scandal. If only her heart and her brain were working with the same script. Romance is an ideal. This is a love story. Falling Stars explores the possibility of second chances and asks hard questions about duty, fidelity, life in the public eye, and the cost of being happy. This is the beginning of a sexy, sensual, and emotional roller-coaster ride that reminds us that love, while not often easy, is always worth it. “

I love the setting of this story, which is the set of a popular TV show. I enjoyed the scenes where we were able to see both the actors and the characters they were playing and how those two pieces were woven together. I also really loved the fandom tweets that introduced some of the chapters. The thing that I didn’t like about the book was that things happened between Sam and Val that they never discussed. They basically pretended that these things didn’t happen. I would have liked to have read a bit more discussion between them – I hope that will happen in book two, due out in January!

What have you been reading lately?

Enjoying The Florida Sunshine

Thursday, December 24, 2015

Our time in Florida has consisted of a lot of time at the pool! The weather has been mostly in the 80s and when the sun is out it is perfectly warm enough to enjoy the pool. My parents live about a half mile from the pool and we have mostly been walking back and forth as well!

Another activity has been visiting the farm, which is a vegetable market with some activities outside as well.
