This week, I finished reading The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. It had been on my to-be-read list for long enough that I do not remember why I added it, but I assume I read a review of the book by another blogger. While some of the book dragged for me, the mystery of the story kept me interested enough to continue reading! “During a picnic at her family’s farm in the English countryside, sixteen-year-old Laurel Nicolson witnesses a shocking crime, a crime that challenges everything she knows about her adored mother, Dorothy. Now, fifty years later, Laurel and her sisters are meeting at the farm to celebrate Dorothy’s ninetieth birthday. Realizing that this is her last chance to discover the truth about that long-ago day, Laurel searches for answers that can only be found in Dorothy’s past. Clue by clue, she traces a secret history of three strangers from vastly different worlds thrown together in war-torn London—Dorothy, Vivien, and Jimmy—whose lives are forever after entwined.” I enjoyed the piecing together of the information through various people’s stories and Laurel’s research into her mother’s past. I enjoyed the ultimate conclusion as to why Dorothy committed the crime that Laurel witnesses within the first few pages of the book. I also enjoyed learning more about life in London during World War II, as I never realized that there was bombing and much danger there at that time. So, being that I think it was another blogger who recommended this book via her own post, now I hope to pass along that favor. Go check it out!
