When I was younger, I collected quotes that I loved, including things I had read, song lyrics, and even words from my own friends. For awhile, I had a website of quotes and it was great, until of course, I stopped updating it. What does all of this have to do with a book called Happiness A to Z: The Gleeful Guide to Finding and Following Your Bliss? Well, for every letter from A to Z, this book includes quotes about happiness. “Happiness is around every corner but everyone once in a while, we need a map or a pointers on how to find it. This book is just such a guide with 26 chapters filled with ideas and inspiration. Joy unites all people and words are often how we best express our joy. Happiness A-Z is the perfect collection of power thoughts and insightful quotes that express some of the best ways to ‘get happy.’ From exploring the excitement of being fully ‘Alive’ to the adventure of exploring the world’s most ‘Zestful’ experiences, this collection of quotes takes you through the most important ABC’s of life.” Each chapter opens with its descriptive word and a reflection by the author about that word. Next, a series of quotes relating to the word and happiness. In deference to my previous hobby of collecting quotes, I thought I would share some of my favorite quotes found in Happiness A to Z.
Alive: “My point is, life is about balance. The good and the bad. The highs and the lows. The pina and the colada.” – Ellen DeGeneres.
Contentment: “The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.” Henry Ward Beecher.
Friendship: “True friendship is seen through the heart, not through the eyes.” – Anonymous. * “If you want an accounting of your worth, count your friends.” – Merry Browne. * “A friend is someone who knows all about you and loves you just the same.” – Elbert Hubbard.
Gratitude: “When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.” – Tecumseh.
Happy: “A happy life is made up of little things…a gift sent, a letter written, a call made, a recommendation given, transportation provided, a cake made, a book lent, a check sent.” – Carol Holmes.
Kindness: “Every day, tell at least one person something you like, admire, or appreciate about them.” – Richard Carlson.
Relax: “Ah! There is nothing like staying at home, for real comfort.” – Jane Austen.
Zest: “In bad times and good, I have never lost my sense of zest for life.” – Walt Disney.
I imagine this book would be great to turn to if one is feeling sad, to flip through and find a quote that inspires, and to use to cheer up!
