While trying to decide what to blog about today, I came across the fact that on this day in 1980, John Lennon was shot. This in turn reminded me that while eating dinner with some friends on Friday night, one asked the other what his favorite Beatles song was. He answered Twist And Shout, which actually surprised me, because it’s not one of the first song that comes to mind when I think of the Beatles! The friend who asked this question originally stated that his favorite Beatles song is probably While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
I chimed in then, saying that my favorite is Yellow Submarine, but then I changed my mind and said it is Ob-La-Di. According to Rolling Stone’s list of the top 100 Beatles songs, the top 10 are as follows:
- A Day In The Life
- I Want To Hold Your Hand
- Strawberry Fields Forever
- Yesterday
- In My Life
- Something
- Hey Jude
- Let It Be
- Come Together
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
So out of the three of us, only one of our picks made the top 10! However, I truly love #’s 2, 4, 7, and 8 on this list too! I did a small survey on my facebook page and received the following replies:
Eleanor Rigby
Don’t Let Me Down
A Day In The Life
Let It Be
Blackbird
In My Life
Michelle
and my father chose Here Comes The Sun, Norwegian Wood, and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
How crazy is it that every person can name a different favorite Beatles song! What’s yours?
