It’s time! TV Season Premiere time that is! If you’re a TV watcher, you know how exciting it is when your favorite shows return from their summer hiatuses. If you’re like me and you have a favorite show, you may have been waiting (im)patiently all summer for your show to return! As you probably know (if you know me at all), the show I’m looking forward to seeing the most is Scandal.
Unluckily for me, Scandal premieres on the 2nd night of Rosh Hashanah, and I therefore have to wait an extra 2 nights to see it! [On a side note, I hope to get my regular Scandal review post up next Sunday, hopefully not too much later than normal!]
So, it’s been 4 months since the season 3 finale and I’ve kept Scandal close to my heart ever since. How did I get through these past 4 months of no Scandal? Here are some of the ways.
1. Other TV Shows.
I tried, really. But I didn’t find another show that I love and care about as much as Scandal. This summer I watched: The Good Wife, Orphan Black, Masters of Sex, The Divide, and Castle.
2. Fan Fiction.
Fan Fiction is written by fans of shows, using the characters of the shows and sometimes the plots of the shows, but in the case of the good ones, they differ from the show enough to make them interesting. I have never been able to read fan fiction for any show other than Scandal. This summer, there have been some amazing stories out there, some that I have loved even more than the show itself! My favorites include The Pressure of Cheating Death – a different road to the White House with Olivia and Fitz together, Unforgettable – a completely different story of Olivia and Fitz falling in love, and Devoted To Your Happiness and its sequel The Constancy of Happiness – a story of Fitz and Olivia navigating issues of family and politics that is different from the show but literally each chapter could be an episode and be even more interesting than the show itself. I have read almost all the Scandal stories on the fan fiction website and I just love getting notifications of updates in my email!
3. Keeping up with the actors.
Seeing photos and interviews with Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn throughout the summer made me happy. Especially these:

4. Casting News.
Did you know Portia de Rossi is going to be on Scandal? So is Sheldon from Private Practice. The girl who played Karen Grant, Madeline Carroll, is busy, so Karen has been recast as Mary Mouser. And Penny from Lost is going to be on Scandal! I don’t know about anyone else, but I find it very sad that she missed Desmond by 3 seasons.

5. Spoilers and Speculation.
There really hasn’t been much, but if it’s been printed I’ve probably read about it. Right now, the tag line is #WhereIsOliviaPope, being that she ran away in the season finale and no one knew where she was going. I fully expect this question to be resolved within the first few minutes of the first episode and forgotten about soon after, just as last summer’s tag line #TheSecretIsOut, referring to Olivia being revealed as the president’s mistress, was completely disregarded after the first episode. Supposedly, within the first few minutes of the first episode, we will find out the nature of Olivia and Jake’s current relationship. Personally, I hope they are not together! (Please recall the fact that he gave her a concussion in Season 2 and choked her in Season 3). However, I have heard that Fitz is pretty upset at Olivia and she’s “not really on his radar.” So here’s what I hope happens – Fitz divorces Mellie and focuses on being president, Olivia gets therapy and eventually gets back together with Fitz, but only after she begs him for forgiveness. Whatever actually happens will probably be the things I least expect – and whatever is the worst possible thing Shonda Rhimes can come up with! [Edited to add: I also do not want Olivia to come back pregnant. First of all that would be silly because they spent all of last season working to hide Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. Second of all, Shonda already wrote the whole who’s the daddy storyline on Private Practice!]

By next week at this time I’ll have seen the premiere – and I’ll be back to share my thoughts! If you watch Scandal, tell me what you think / hope will happen in the comments. If you don’t watch, what show are you looking forward to watching this fall?
