Mrs. Band #imENOUGH

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

This post is sponsored by the Mrs. Band

Do you ever feel like you’re not enough? Like you need to be more? As a mom, my life can be busy and hectic and I can feel at times that I’m not good enough at what I’m doing. This is on top of the doubts that cross all of our minds as we wonder if we are smart enough, pretty enough, and kind enough, etc. It is so important for women to remember that they are ENOUGH for themselves and their families and everyone else around them.

The Mrs. Band has written a song about just this – the challenge of juggling a career, marriage, motherhood and friendships, while still trying to maintain their own identity. The song celebrates women and lets them know that they are enough.

The Mrs. will be releasing their debut EP this fall. Although the music may sound like what’s being played on pop radio right now, the lyrics tell a different story. As women in their late thirties/early forties, songs about teenage heartbreak and wild nights clubbing weren’t things they could relate to. They decided to write about their own lives. They set out to foster a connection through their music with other women at the same place in their lives. The Mrs. is comprised of drummer Andra Liemandt, lead vocalists/guitarists Mandy Prater and Jennifer Zavaleta, vocalist/keyboardist Larissa Ness, and bassist Jenny Mason. Here is a video of the song:

Thank you to The Mrs. for sponsoring this post and reminding me that I’m Enough!

It’s Okay #32

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

It’s okay…

…that my plans for the first day the kids were home from camp got foiled – I hadn’t checked the website of the place I wanted to go (the county fair) and realized it would not be fun because most things aren’t open yet. Good thing I checked in advance.

…to be concerned that Zachary isn’t ready for 2nd grade.

…that both Gabbie and Zachary have planned play dates today, and that all three kids will be at both play dates! (One is at our house and one is at a park).

…that I’ve been trying to figure out what a certain song is that they play at my class at the gym for the past week.

…to share this with you: Bloominous makes DIY flowers easy. They sell kits to make DIY floral arrangements easy and affordable. I love the idea and think these are so pretty:

…to have a lot of fun reviews coming up soon on the blog!

Models Own Nail Polish in Red Sea – $3.50
The Models Own SPLASH collection dives straight into summer. Revitalize your entire polish collection; wear alone for a wash effect, or over your favorite color polish for a glistening top coat. Inspired by the sea and distant shores, this pretty collection will have you dreaming of summer haze and tropical sun.

Once again, I pay $10 a month for these bags. I love seeing what comes my way each month! The value received this month was $23.05, even lower than last month’s value. I must say, the recent bags I have received have been more disappointing than thrilling. I happen to love receiving eyeshadow and eyeliner, but the sizes of these samples put a damper on the products for me. I hope in the future I will get bigger sample sizes or more full products, or I may have to cancel my subscription. I also love receiving nail polish, but I have not tried this one yet and the reviews I have read of it have unfortunately not been good. I have not had occasion to try the spot treatment product as of yet. As for the tanning oil, I am not one to lay out and tan – I had enough bad sunburns in the past to risk doing so at this point! I normally use SPF 30 or higher at the pool. I did use this spray on my arms on a day that we were outside but I did not use sunscreen. It felt and smelled good, but I didn’t see any benefits of using the product regularly. If you’d like to sign up to receive your own Glam Bag each month, click here! If you got this month’s bag, what did you think?

What I’ve Been Reading #56

Friday, July 25, 2014

When Lorena Bathey, the author of Beatrice Munson, contacted me and offered to send me a copy of her book, I was intrigued. She told me that her novel is a book that moms love, saying “It’s the story of Marissa, a woman that lives in a suburban community as a single mom when her high school nemesis moves in across the street. Beatrice Munson’s defining moment in life was to either get a boob job or go to Egypt, she chose the latter. Now she’s moved home and shakes up the neighborhood of Vista Heights where the women have become like their homes, varying shades of grey.”

I must admit, the idea of my high school nemesis moving in nearby is something that would terrify me, and while Marissa was initially nervous to see Beatrice after all this time, it turns out that Beatrice was not to be feared – and probably wasn’t much of a nemesis in the first place. Beatrice really shook up the neighborhood, encouraging the women to fulfill their dreams – from Andrea who opens a bakery, to Deidre who takes over a hair salon, to Marissa following her dreams towards professional photography, the women support one another and grow together. Beatrice also reintroduces Marissa to her high school crush, who is not exactly how Marissa remembers him, and to her new love interest, Graydon. For me, the definition of a good chick lit is female friendships and a love story, which this book definitely has!

While it took me a bit of time to get into, there were times when I couldn’t put the book down and I always wanted to find out more about each of the characters. I imagine the author could have named this book after Marissa and then written books named after each of the other characters, but by naming it after Beatrice, it shows that the main point of the book was how one person can change several lives. Many of us could use a friend like Beatrice!

Photo Shutter

For a long time, I  have had a shuttered door standing in my garage. Dave was afraid it was going to fall over and break the car, so I finally decided to use it the way I’d planned to originally – as a photo shutter. I really like how it came out!

This is what it looked like originally.

After one coat of spray paint.

More spray paint.

I added a drawer pull that I had purchased at a garage sale and never used.

Bought some decorative clothespins and attached the photos!

Wouldn’t you like a photo shutter in your bedroom? I sure love mine!
