Wow, 50 weeks worth of sharing books I’ve read here on my blog! My reading has been very slow lately as I find myself reading things online that don’t count as books (although many of them certainly are good enough to be books!). But I did finish one book since my last update.
Elizabeth Berg is an author I usually enjoy, so I was excited to read The Art of Mending. I did enjoy it, but I felt that it ended abruptly. “Laura Bartone anticipates her annual family reunion in Minnesota with a mixture of excitement and wariness. Yet this year’s gathering will prove to be much more trying than either she or her siblings imagined. As soon as she arrives, Laura realizes that something is not right with her sister. Forever wrapped up in events of long ago, Caroline is the family’s restless black sheep. When Caroline confronts Laura and their brother, Steve, with devastating allegations about their mother, the three have a difficult time reconciling their varying experiences in the same house. But a sudden misfortune will lead them all to face the past, their own culpability, and their common need for love and forgiveness.” I enjoyed the family relations in the story and was interested to see how it would work itself out. However, I think the book could have been longer, because when it ended I was surprised it was already over. I think I would like to read more about what happened after the story ended and how the characters moved on after everything that happened to them.
I feel like I need more good books to read! The last few I’ve read have been just so-so. Any suggestions?
