One thing you’ve gotta love about blogging is getting the chance to try out new products. Amy from Mod Podge Rocks offered a bunch of crafters the chance to try out her newest product, Peel and Stick Stencils, and I was really excited to receive mine and get crafting! I chose the wood grain tree-like design you see above, and I received it along with two podgeable glitters and two spouncer applicators. All I had to supply was the Mod Podge, and a surface to decorate!
Let me start out by saying that I may think of myself as crafty, but I tend to make a mess of things. I ended up ruining one frame and two burlap covered canvases which I tried to decorate. In the end I was able to create a frame that I like, so I will try to tell you what I learned from the process!
The first time I tried to create a frame like this one, I skipped painting it first. I didn’t like how it looked, so this time I started by painting it completely first.
Now, lay your stencil on the frame and use the spouncer to apply Mod Podge. The first time I went through this, I had an older bottle of Mod Podge and it wasn’t really working the way it was supposed to, so I got a new one!
After applying the Mod Podge in a light-medium layer, set aside the stencil and use the podgeable glitters by sprinkling the glitter over the Mod Podge lines.
Repeat across the frame, and don’t forget to let it dry! On my earlier attempt I tried to brush off the excess while it was wet and ended up with a glittery blob.
Here it is after the excess has been gently brushed away with a dry spouncer!
You can see some spaces where I either didn’t apply enough Mod Podge or it dried before I applied the glitter in that section or I just left a space when stenciling…but trust me when I say this is way better than my earlier attempts! By the way, brushing Mod Podge onto burlap is not very easy! So, can you see the tree design here? Or does it just look stripy? Directions for using the products described above can be found here.
These stencils (and the other supplies) are available at Michaels, but guess what? You can win one stencil from the collection right here! If you want to win one, and you reside the the U.S., just comment with which design is your favorite (though please note you may not receive the design you choose). Good luck!
