This week was full of school events for both Gabbie and Zachary! It all started last Thursday when I received a call from the school principal. He was quick to inform me that he was calling with good news – and he certainly was! Gabbie was named the Mensch of the Week! Mensch means “a person of integrity and honor” and every week or every few weeks, the teachers nominate a student to be the Mensch of the Week. Here’s what they said about Gabbie:
There are so many reasons this student’s teachers wanted to nominate her as Mensch, they decided to make a list. Her teachers said she:
• Is a hard worker
• Keeps a positive attitude
• Is kind to her friends
• Smiles all the time
• Helps others when they need it
• Is mindful of the people working around her
• Is consistent with everyday tasks
• Completes all tasks
• Includes everyone
• Is sensitive to other people’s feelings
• Is respectful to the teachers and her peers
For these reasons, the third grade teachers nominated for Mensch of the Week…Gabriella G. Kol haKavod, Gabbie!
The next special event was for Zachary. In first grade, the students receive their own prayer books. On Tuesday, his class decorated their prayer book covers. The parents came, but the kids did all the work! I was very proud of Zachary for the way he concentrated and completed his cover designs.
That big white thing is a shofar! The kids traced shapes and then decorated them with paint pens.
Next up was Gabbie’s class Native American Fair. The kids each researched a Native American tribe, and created a poster, a magazine, and craft project to represent their tribe. Gabbie did the Iroquois. The other classes in the school came to the fair and each student taught other students about their tribe. They also could dress up if they chose to!

Finally, on Wednesday Gabbie’s dance class had Parent Watch Day. Gabbie is in two classes this year – Performance Team and Lyrical. Her Performance Team is getting ready for their first performance at one of the school basketball games! That should be a lot of fun. So far, their dance is looking great and I’m loving their outfits!
I was sitting behind the dancers, but I did take a video!
At Lyrical, I didn’t get many photos, but again, I took a video.

And now, winter break has begun!
