School Events

This week was full of school events for both Gabbie and Zachary! It all started last Thursday when I received a call from the school principal. He was quick to inform me that he was calling with good news – and he certainly was! Gabbie was named the Mensch of the Week! Mensch means “a person of integrity and honor” and every week or every few weeks, the teachers nominate a student to be the Mensch of the Week. Here’s what they said about Gabbie:

There are so many reasons this student’s teachers wanted to nominate her as Mensch, they decided to make a list. Her teachers said she:
• Is a hard worker
• Keeps a positive attitude
• Is kind to her friends
• Smiles all the time
• Helps others when they need it
• Is mindful of the people working around her
• Is consistent with everyday tasks
• Completes all tasks
• Includes everyone
• Is sensitive to other people’s feelings
• Is respectful to the teachers and her peers
For these reasons, the third grade teachers nominated for Mensch of the Week...Gabriella G. Kol haKavod, Gabbie!

We were so proud!

The next special event was for Zachary. In first grade, the students receive their own prayer books. On Tuesday, his class decorated their prayer book covers. The parents came, but the kids did all the work! I was very proud of Zachary for the way he concentrated and completed his cover designs.

That big white thing is a shofar! The kids traced shapes and then decorated them with paint pens.

Next up was Gabbie’s class Native American Fair. The kids each researched a Native American tribe, and created a poster, a magazine, and craft project to represent their tribe. Gabbie did the Iroquois. The other classes in the school came to the fair and each student taught other students about their tribe. They also could dress up if they chose to!

Gabbie is standing in the back middle.

Finally, on Wednesday Gabbie’s dance class had Parent Watch Day. Gabbie is in two classes this year – Performance Team and Lyrical. Her Performance Team is getting ready for their first performance at one of the school basketball games! That should be a lot of fun. So far, their dance is looking great and I’m loving their outfits!

I was sitting behind the dancers, but I did take a video!

At Lyrical, I didn’t get many photos, but again, I took a video.

Gabbie is on the far side, in the light blue shirt.

And now, winter break has begun!

Happy winter break! Ours started on Monday - preschool takes a long break! And I can't think of anything better than being called a mensch. In fact, my husband often calls our son one.

Yes, for three weeks! It's not like that for everyone, but Scarlet only goes M, T, and W and the kids are going back on a Thursday, I believe. I suppose it could be Friday, So she doesn't start until Monday.

I love that you explain the different terms/words that we may not know (i.e.: mensch).

Yeah Gabbie! That's so awesome. I watched the videos when you put them on IG. So reminds me of when I took dance as a kid.

Dara said...

those were much shorter video clips - you get the whole feel if you watch the one on here! (the performance team one). :)

Omg amazing! I love how into it Gabbie is on the dance video. You sure have a busy lady with all those activities. That's the way to do it ;) and it must have been an honor having your daughter be picked. I know I feel super proud when my boy gets picked, even for the smallest thing lol.
