Before Thanksgiving, Dave and I took an overnight getaway to Atchison KS while his parents were in town to watch the kids. We stayed at a historic home called the Glick Mansion, a home that once belonged to George Washington Glick, the 9th Governor of Kansas. Formerly a Gothic Victorian style home built in 1873, the Glick Mansion was remodeled to a Tudor Revival style in 1912. The mansion is now a Bed and Breakfast called Tuck U Inn, with five rooms for couples or friends to share.
We stayed in the “First Ladies Room,” which may just have been the governor’s room when he lived in the mansion.
We snuck a peak into two of the other unoccupied (at the time) rooms, the President’s Room, and “Lizzy’s Attic,” a room with multiple beds frequently used for girls’ getaways.
The downstairs area is lovely, maintaining the feel of a historic home with antiques and décor, plus some adorable chirping birds!
There is a full library of DVDs, so we watched Love, Actually while we relaxed and enjoyed being away from home for the night. Atchison itself is a historic town and the birthplace of Amelia Earhart. We checked out a few of the stores in town, as well as in nearby Weston, MO.
We enjoyed our getaway, although the same can’t be said for Dave’s parents, who had to deal with a distraught Zachary – he is unable to handle being away from me at the moment, which is not easy for anyone! I would encourage those who get a chance to visit Tuck U Inn at the Glick Mansion, I am sure you will enjoy it too!
