Teacher's Gifts

Like I mentioned previously, the kids finished school last week. I was inspired (by Pinterest of course) to be a little creative with the end of the year gifts for our teachers! Gabbie's 3 teachers and Simon's teacher all got this:
My inspiration came from Our Life In A Click. I got the cups at Walmart.
I bought a few different drink mixes. The balls are ice cubes that I found at World Market.
We matched the ice balls with the cups and fit everything in.
Then we made tags.
They were printed from Dimple Prints.
We punched holes in the tags and attached them to the straws, doing the same with Starbucks gift cards.
We also included these questionnaires about our teachers from Busy Kids = Happy Mom. The teachers really enjoyed these - especially the part about how old they are! (My kids guessed young!)
While Gabbie and I made our gifts, the boys played with their new water table!
Simon says hi!
Zachary's teacher got a different present because she already has a cup like these that I see her drinking her green smoothies out of! Plus, she did so amazing with Zachary this year that I felt like she deserved something even more special. I found a lunch bag and container at World Market and I filled it with a few different fruits plus a gift card to a local food market. I also wrote a letter thanking her for the great job she did with Zachary this year!

In case any of our teachers see this, we hope you enjoyed the gifts and know that we were so happy to have you as our teachers this year!

Dance Recital and Gymnastics Class

Things are coming to a close here and this week was full of events celebrating the end of a great year. First, on Sunday we had Gabbie's dance recital. She has been dancing at the Encore School of the Arts at the JCC since we moved here, and this was her 3rd dance recital. In past years, she has done ballet and tap and danced twice in the recital. This year she did jazz and danced once.

Also this week, Zachary had his last gymnastics class. Zachary really loved gymnastics and even learned how to do this:

Simon didn't want to be left out so he  checked out the trampoline!

Mother's Day 5K

On Sunday, I ran my 2nd 5K. My first was on April 1, well that was the first I ran in, I had walked 3 in the past. I knew I could finish the 3.1 miles, but I also knew I wasn't very fast. I finished that first 5K in just over 44 minutes. It was a small race and while I wasn't the last to finish, I was pretty close to the end!

This Sunday was the Mother's Day 5K. There were 3065 women in the race! I lined up after the 12 minute mile runners, in the run/walk group. I still walk occasionally when I do 3 miles! I'm proud to say that I ran (jogged) most of the race, with few walk breaks, and I felt good the whole time.

Don't I look great? Haha. My goal in the race was to finish in 40 minutes. I had been running 3 miles at about a 13-14 minute pace so I thought this was an attainable goal. And I did it! My time was 38:33! That's almost 6 minutes faster than my last 5K race. My per mile pace was 12:25, which is my fastest time yet. I know, it's pretty slow. But I'm not a runner and never have been, so it is a really good time for me!

I finished 137th out of 369 in my age group and 924th overall. Dave and the kids met me at the end of the race and they were proud of me!

Office Organization Continued

Curious how my desk project turned out? Once again, here is the before picture:

Now, it looks like this:

I moved a lot of things and made the space more functional. My yarn and knitting projects are inside the fabric drawers or in the basement now. The pile of envelopes is in a drawer on the other side of the room - I also am working on cleaning up that piece of furniture. I moved the plastic drawers over there too - now the kids have two sets of them for their art supplies. I haven't taken pictures yet because it's not finished, and I have an empty shelf to figure out what to do with! I did organize the crayon drawer though!

Here is the inside of the cabinet in my new set up:

Also this week, I cleaned out the coat closet. It used to look like this:

Now it looks like this:

There are some coats missing because I had to wash them, but there's space for them still!

Once again, I'm linking up this post to Organize and Decorate Everything.

Getting Organized

Since Passover, I've been on a diet. I decided to diet from Passover until Shavuot, and to then reassess and see how it is going. So far, it's going pretty well. I am eating small portions and feeling fine. The best part is that I no longer have mid morning sugar drops where I feel completely shaky and dizzy and in need of sugar! Along with my diet, I've decided to get organized. I started in the kitchen, completely clearing off the mail drop desk and reorganizing it. I am now working on my office / craft room space. I was influenced first by IHeart Organizing, and the amazing desk she and her husband built. Eventually I decided to keep the desk I have currently, but get a new system to go next to my desk and to keep my desk surface itself clean and find places for everything! So far, it's going well. It's been a week since I bought the new furniture! I got this:

and this:

from Target. They stack together. I also got some fabric drawers to use to hide my mess of yarn, etc.

This was my desk before moving in the new furniture. (Believe it or not, I'd already started clearing it out before I took this picture!

Here it is a little more cleared out:

One of the ideas I got on pinterest was to organize the wires under my desk.

Before:

After:

So much neater! Another idea I got was to make boxes for the kids' stuff that I've been saving in piles for them. Their baby books, photos, and cards they got for their birthdays, etc, are now in these boxes:

The spray adhesive left its mark, but otherwise I love how they look!

I am still working on the organization, so if you'd like to stay tuned, I hope to post more pictures soon! I have spent a lot of time looking over great organization ideas on the internet. One of the sites I've been looking at is Organize and Decorate Everything. She hosts link parties where all kinds of sites link up what they've been working on! And I'm going to link up this post too!
