I know I’ve been saying that this summer has been extra long, but now that it’s just about over, I’m feeling a little nostalgic. Mainly I can’t believe Zachary is starting kindergarten on Monday!
Two years ago when we went to kindergarten orientation for Gabbie, I was nine months pregnant with Simon. Actually, my water had broken that morning and was leaking with every move (I had a diaper on!). So I smushed myself into a kindergarten chair and tried to pay attention to what we needed to know about kindergarten and didn’t succeed very well. Simon was born the next morning and I missed Gabbie’s first day of kindergarten completely. So this is sort of the first time for me.

Also, for the past 2 years Dave has been getting Gabbie out the door for school. She leaves at 7:30 AM. Have I mentioned I’m not a morning person? So Dave would give her breakfast and either drive her to school (in kindergarten) or send her with her ride (in 1st grade). This year, he feels that I should be in charge in the morning, including getting Zachary up and dressed (he dressed himself today, yay!), feeding the kids, and waiting for their ride. He wants to go to work before they leave – isn’t he dedicated?! So I’m not so much looking forward to that.
The other thing I’m not looking forward to is the carpool situation. I am very lucky that 2 of my good friends work at the kids’ school and help out with the driving since they are there anyway. However, we are all at the point where with 3+ kids each it is almost impossible to fit extra kids in our vans! And with the younger kids being in preschool and the older kids being in elementary school, they have different hours and my friends and their husbands both need to have vans to be able to drive kids to school and themselves to work at different times! It gets stressful with scheduling, but hopefully it will work out ok!
I am totally looking forward to not hearing “Mommy Mommy Mommy” 5000 times a day (now it will be maybe 2000 times) and I’m looking forward to establishing a routine, however busy that routine will be!
Today we went to kindergarten orientation. Then we visited Gabbie’s 2nd grade classroom. School starts on Monday. My kids are getting so big!
Hopefully her hair won’t be so messy on Monday!
