Our 4th of July

I have 3 rules for the perfect July 4th. 1. Swimming. 2. Hot Dogs. 3. Fireworks. It’s been years since I’ve accomplished all 3. This year I was painfully close. With a lot of other fun things mixed in, I shouldn’t be so sad about the failure on rule number 3, but like I said, it’s been years.

Our day started with the neighborhood popsicle parade. It’s actually a bike parade and afterwards the kids eat popsicles and get to see a fire truck.

Next, we headed over to a nearby town’s 4th of July festival. All the kids activities were free! The petting zoo had a zebra! We tried to feed the animals, but they didn’t seem very hungry. Gabbie and Zachary went in a bounce house. Then we did pony rides. Zachary sprayed a fire hose. And they rode on the trackless train.

The next order of fun was Zachary’s birthday party, followed by a bbq and swimming at our neighbor’s house. Swimming, check, hot dog, check!

After a yummy dinner, we all headed home to change out of our bathing suits and then went over to another friends’ house who live in a place where you can see the town fireworks. Not long after we got there, Gabbie decided that she wanted to leave. Gabbie has a history of saying she doesn’t feel well and one day, a few weeks ago, we forced her to come along even though she once again said she didn’t feel well. She ended up throwing up that day. So yesterday I was unsure if she was overtired from a long day, really and truly not feeling well, or just nervous about the fireworks. (She has seen fireworks in Disney World and loved them!) So I was the designated parent who took her home. Simon came home too and he went to sleep. Gabbie of course decided she was fine and wanted to go back. I sulked. Dave and Zachary stayed and watched the fireworks. Everyone slept late this morning!
